Ionic Community Participation Guidelines

As contributors and maintainers of the Ionic project, we pledge to respect everyone who contributes by posting issues, updating documentation, submitting pull requests, providing feedback in comments, and any other activities.

Communication through any of Ionic's channels (GitHub, Slack, Forum, Discord, mailing lists, Twitter, etc.) must be constructive and never resort to personal attacks, trolling, public or private harassment, insults, or other unprofessional conduct.

We promise to extend courtesy and respect to everyone involved in this project regardless of gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, race, ethnicity, religion, or level of experience. We expect anyone contributing to the Ionic project to do the same.

If any member of the community violates this code of conduct, the maintainers of the Ionic project may take action, removing issues, comments, and PRs or blocking accounts as deemed appropriate.

Ionic Events

All delegates, speakers, sponsors and volunteers at any Ionic run/sanctioned event are required to agree with the following code of conduct. Organizers will enforce this code throughout the event.

The Quick Version

The goal of the Ionic Community is to create a helpful, friendly, constructive, and safe environment where all are welcome to learn, discuss, share, and contribute. The Ionic Community provides a harassment-free community experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), or technology choices. We do not tolerate harassment of participants in any form. Sexual language and/or imagery are not appropriate for any community activities, including, but not limited to, participation in online forums, talks, workshops, parties, events (whether online or in-person), Twitter, and other online media platforms. Community participants violating these rules may be warned, sanctioned or expelled from community/forum/event at the discretion of the moderator/organizer/host.

1. Overview

The Ionic Community Code of Conduct aims to foster a community where all people should feel safe to participate, regardless of sex, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, mental health, neuro(a)typicality, physical appearance, body size, race, age, nationality, and political or religious affiliation. These guidelines exist to enable diverse individuals and groups to interact and collaborate to mutual advantage. This document outlines both expected and prohibited behavior.

2. Purpose

The Ionic Community space aims to be inclusive to developers and contributors with varied and diverse backgrounds. As such, we are committed to providing a friendly, safe and welcoming environment for all, regardless of gender, gender identification, sexual orientation, ability, physical appearance, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and religion (or lack thereof).

This code of conduct outlines our expectations for all those who participate in our community, as well as the consequences for unacceptable behavior.

We invite all those who participate in the Ionic Community to share responsibility in helping us create safe and positive experiences for everyone present. If you see inappropriate behavior, please report it to a member of our staff by emailing devrel@ionic.io.

3. Expected Behavior

The following behaviors are expected and requested of all community members:

  • Please be kind and courteous. There’s no need to be mean or rude to others.

  • Participate in an authentic and active way. In doing so, you contribute to the health and longevity of this community.

  • Exercise consideration and respect in your speech and actions.

  • Attempt collaboration before conflict.

  • Refrain from demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behavior and speech.

  • Be mindful of your surroundings and of your fellow participants. Alert community leaders if you notice a dangerous situation, someone in distress, or violations of this Code of Conduct, even if they seem inconsequential.

  • Remember that community event venues may be shared with members of the public; please be respectful to all patrons of these locations.

  • Share praise and recognition; If you see someone who is making an extra effort to ensure our community is welcoming, friendly, and encourages all participants to contribute to the fullest extent, we want to know.

4. Unacceptable Behavior

The following behaviors are considered harassment and are unacceptable within our community:

  • Violence, threats of violence or violent language directed against another person.

  • Sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist or otherwise discriminatory jokes and language.

  • Posting or displaying sexually explicit or violent material.

  • Personal insults, particularly those related to gender, sexual orientation, body type, race, religion, or disability.

  • Inappropriate photography or recording.

  • Inappropriate physical contact. You should have someone’s consent before touching them.

  • Unwelcome sexual attention. This includes sexualized comments or jokes; inappropriate touching, groping, and unwelcome sexual advances.

  • Deliberate intimidation, stalking or following (online or in-person).

  • Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behavior.

  • Sustained disruption of community events, including talks and presentations.

  • Likewise, any spamming, trolling, flaming, baiting or other attention-stealing behavior is not welcome.

4.A Spam

Our online community values respect and consideration for one another. In order to maintain a positive and collaborative environment, we ask that members refrain from spamming individuals. Spamming includes sending unsolicited messages or emails to others, flooding threads with repetitive or irrelevant comments, or any other form of excessive or unwanted communication.

If you wish to engage with someone in the community, please do so respectfully and within the context of the conversation. If someone expresses a desire to discontinue communication with you, please honor their request and refrain from further contact.

4.B Plagiarism

Our online community values original and thoughtful contributions from all members. We ask that all members avoid plagiarism and respect the intellectual property of others. Plagiarism is the act of presenting someone else's work or ideas as your own, and it is not acceptable within our community.

Examples of plagiarism include:

  • Copying and pasting someone else's work without proper attribution.
  • Paraphrasing someone else's work without proper attribution.
  • Using someone else's ideas or arguments without proper attribution.
  • Submitting work that you did not create as your own.

We ask that all members contribute their own original work, and that they properly attribute any sources or inspirations. If you are unsure whether your use of someone else's work constitutes plagiarism, please seek guidance from a moderator or administrator. Plagiarism undermines the integrity of our community, and we take it very seriously.

5. Weapons Policy

No weapons will be allowed at Ionic events, community spaces, or in other spaces covered by the scope of this Code of Conduct. Weapons include but are not limited to guns, explosives (including fireworks), and large knives such as those used for hunting or display, as well as any other item used for the purpose of causing injury or harm to others. Anyone seen in possession of one of these items will be asked to leave immediately and will only be allowed to return without the weapon. Community members are further expected to comply with all state and local laws on this matter.

6. Consequences of Unacceptable Behavior

Unacceptable behavior from any community member, including sponsors and those with decision-making authority, will not be tolerated.

Anyone asked to stop unacceptable behavior is expected to comply immediately.

If a community member engages in unacceptable behavior, the community organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, up to and including a temporary ban or permanent expulsion from the community without warning (and without refund in the case of a paid event).

7. Reporting Guidelines

If you are subject to or witness unacceptable behavior, or have any other concerns, please notify a community organizer as soon as possible by emailing devrel@ionic.io. Content flagged as inappropriate in the developer community forum will notify the moderation team for additional review and, if necessary, action.

Additionally, community moderators are available to help community members engage with local law enforcement or to otherwise help those experiencing unacceptable behavior feel safe. In the context of in-person events, organizers will also provide safe escorts as desired by the person experiencing distress.

8. Addressing Grievances

If you feel you have been falsely or unfairly accused of violating this Code of Conduct, you should notify devrel@ionic.io with a concise description of your grievance. Your grievance will be handled as quickly as possible, and a response will be emailed to you by the moderation and review team.
